The Anglican Church of Rwanda was first introduced in Rwanda in 1918 by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) and officially recognized in 1925.
In 1975, two dioceses were created in Rwanda, namely, Kigali Diocese and Butare Diocese. In 1979, the church adopted the name of “Eglise Episcopale au Rwanda (EER)” and in 2007, the Episcopal Church of Rwanda changed its name again and is now called “the Anglican Church of Rwanda”.
